We've been learning about percussion and playing west African rhythms with hands on drumming. We centered our learning on an African folktale, The First Music (check out the read aloud!)
March is known for celebrating all things Irish. We will be exploring music and instruments from the green isle and even have an opportunity for hands on experiences with authentic Irish Instruments like an Irish harp and bodhran (a traditional Irish Drum).
We will also be celebrating Women's History Month through the music of such influential women Ella FitzGerald, Marian Anderson, Dolly Parton, Joan Jett, and even a little Taylor Swift.
K-2 will also be focusing on pitch, specifically identifying if a pitch is high or low, and if a note goes up, down, or stays the same in a piece of music.
One way you can support your child in music is by sharing your favorite artists and songs and engaging is conversation about why you like the music you do. Also, encourage your child to experiment with sound, singing silly songs and nursery rhymes as well as making up tunes or rhythms of their own.
